If you set your goals ridiculously high and it’s a failure, you will fail above everyone else’s success.James Cameron
This quote from Cameron looks at goal setting, and innovation.
As we develop goals and identify opportunities for innovation, sometimes we’re stuck in thinking about what could, or should be. We allow self-doubt in to muddle our thinking as opposed to just getting out there and making it happen.
I have have experienced this many times over my career. One of the challenges is that I’m often describing things that only exist in the ether. They existed only in my mind. I thought (and knew) they would be of value.
This work, as we see in most work with technology, only exists in narratives, and descriptions. There is a need to create proof of concept and show that it actually could happen.
Once you build it, then people can look, critique…more importantly, you can iterate.
I’ve gotten to this point in my career because I’ve been willing to take risks, make thoughtful decisions, and take that leap of faith. What I take from this quote is that I need to take that risk, develop the new pieces, and keep grinding.
It may fail…but you don’t know if it’ll fail until you try.
If it does fail…you’re learning, iterating, and failing above the ideas and goals of others.
If you do fail, Fail Hard.
