The Department of Teacher Education at the College of Charleston supports educators across South Carolina. Help us collectively advocate for educational reform during #AllOutMay1.
This day of reflection, rallying, and conversation with legislators is for the benefit of all citizens, including students, families, administrators, schools, businesses, and communities across the state. For more on why this event is happening, please review this post.
As a teacher education department situated within a liberal arts college, we recognize that our PreK-12 teachers lay the foundation for all of the disciplines across the college and careers across the state. South Carolina, along with states across the country, is experiencing a teacher shortage that demands state legislators commit the necessary funding for a 10% pay increase for all teachers, smaller class sizes, and improved resources for students.
There are many ways to get involved if you cannot participate at the statehouse in person. Wear #RedforED on Wednesday, May 1, call/write your state legislators to voice your support for teachers and children and sign the “South Carolina State Senate: #AllOutMay1 South Carolina Public Education Support” petition here.
